Learner goals and capabilities

Students will work on system development cycles in an interactive data base environment. The case projects are set in a team environment with the supervising faculty member servicing as your consultant and evaluator.

We are looking for students to get hands-on experience of working with information systems, especially using Unified Modelling Language (UML).

Students are experienced at the following:

  • Software development languages (Visual Studio.NET, Java);
  • Computer hardware, networking and operating systems (Windows, Unix and Linux);
  • Data gathering, modelling and database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server 2000);
  • Retrieval techniques of databases and programming languages (SQL, PLSQL, ADO.NET, JDBC); and
  • Target platforms, including Windows application development, networked software development, web application development (XHTML, JavaScript, ASP, Java).

Project Examples

You are looking for students to design an Information System using any of the aforementioned software development languages. Perhaps you have tried to model an information system internally already but it is still not delivering what you are looking for. With a group of students they will troubleshoot what you are looking to achieve, map what setups might work, provide constructive thought to what might work best and why, and then they will help implement the Information System.

Once launched students will then look to provide feedback on the success or gaps that are still missing.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
