What is the main goal for this project?

Have you been considering training to support employee development and improve operational outcomes? Let the students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic School of Business help you by completing research and providing recommendations that meet your specific training needs.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will connect with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 – Outcome: Students will submit a report (approximately 10 page) capturing the agreed upon project outcomes.

Depending on the opportunity areas you’ve asked the students to address, the team report can include:

  • Needs analysis tools (survey, interview/focus group questions)
  • Needs analysis results
  • Training design plan inclusive of recommended learning objectives, delivery approaches and training evaluation tools.
  • Templates and examples of training materials.
Project Examples

Beginning in October, student-consultants in teams of 4 or 5 will spend 20 hours per team learning about your organization and your identified performance gap. From this, teams will leverage their education and experience to provide training recommendations and where realistic templates that can be leveraged by the company.

Example project topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Create a needs analysis plan that you can take forward and implement including templates for surveys and focus group/interview questions.
  • Conduct a needs analysis including research on what types of training initiative would be effective for specific content areas and organizational operations.
  • Propose training and development solutions aligned with your organization’s competencies.
  • Design a training plan that includes recommended learning objectives, delivery approaches and training evaluation strategy.
  • Where realistic for the project and your needs, the students can provide templates that can be leveraged in the proposed training initiative (surveys, lesson plan, evaluation tools).
  • Design plan, suggested delivery and evaluation tools for specific topics which may include: Leading change, Change management, Dealing with conflict, Team building, Facilitation skills for subject management experts, Specific workplace health suggestions (Stress management techniques) etc.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide feedback to student teams during check-in meetings and in response to students’ email check-ins, to ensure teams are on the right track and expectations are aligned.

Minimum 2 – 4 interactions with the students remotely (approximately 4 – 6 hours over the duration of the project).

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students’ questions.
