Project Examples
Students are expected to complete this fieldwork course with an assigned mentor, either individually or in groups (size of groups can vary).
During this experience, students will consolidate and apply prior learning from clinical and theory courses to observe the influence of evidence, policy, and legislation on decision making in complex health systems and leadership teams.
This is not just a project-based course.
We are seeking leaders who are open to mentoring students and will allow students to engage in interprofessional teams to understand and integrate interprofessional competencies in collaborative team environments.
This will require the leader, who we call a mentor, to allow the student(s) to work closely with them on diverse day-to-day leadership activities. A wide variety of student activities can be experienced depending on the team and context.
In addition, students will complete leadership projects situated in the needs and requirements of the mentor team and/or organization. Collectively, fieldwork deliverables ought to be useful to and are negotiated with the hosting organization.
Projects students have worked on in the past include:
- Developed an online feedback tool to better support the annual appraisal of casual nursing employees.
- Restructured a health clinic to improve patient flow, confidentiality, and hygiene.
- Designed an educational tool for nursing aides in a long-term care setting to improve the management of responsive behaviours among people with dementia.
- Created a lobbying framework to petition for the inclusion of mental health first and suicide prevention training in health education programs.
- Completed literature searches to support the development of an obesity education program.
- Contributed to the development of governmental policies in response to recent legislative changes.
- reviewing and updating organization policies and procedures
- Creation of a 2-day educational workshops for volunteers on non-violent crisis intervention
- Grant writing and applications for funding through various governmental organizations
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
