Details

The main goal for the project is to enhance digital accessibility for individuals with disabilities by remediating existing digital documents to meet and exceed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ensure they are accessible to all users. This initiative will involve assessing a range of company documents, identifying accessibility barriers, and implementing necessary modifications to achieve compliance.

This will involve several different steps for the students including:

- Evaluating a selected set of digital documents to identify current accessibility shortcomings.

- Using automated tools and manual testing to assess compliance with WCAG standards.

- Applying appropriate remediation techniques to address identified accessibility issues in documents, such as adding alt text for images, ensuring proper heading structures, and enhancing color contrast.

- Modifying documents to include accessible features that support screen readers and other assistive technologies.

- Performing a series of validation tests to ensure all modifications meet the required accessibility standards.

- Creating a set of best practices and guidelines based on the remediation process that can be used for future document creation and modification within the company.

- Training relevant staff on these guidelines to sustain document accessibility standards going forward.

Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:

- Assessment report of current digital documents with identified accessibility shortcomings.

- Remediated digital documents with added alt text, proper heading structures, enhanced color contrast, and accessible features for screen readers and other assistive technologies.

- Validation testing results and documentation of the testing process.

- A set of best practices and guidelines for future document creation and modification.

- Training materials and sessions for relevant staff on document accessibility standards.

Final deliverables:

- Fully remediated documents compliant with the latest accessibility standards.
