Students are asked to address their understanding of the client problem, relevant managing business operations theory, show synthesis of the overall research including lessons from practice, identify innovation opportunities and give insight into possible recommendations.
A possible structure for the Presentation is:
- Agenda
- Introduction
- Statement of client problem
- Interpretation and analysis of the client problem
- Synthesis of the client problem and the research
- WIP Recommendations to the client
- Reference list
This task is designed to promote learner engagement for all students and interaction in the class. The task also will help to develop CLN insight into the challenge of the WIL project brief.
Students will benefit from the Q & A session, as well as written feedback on their work in progress.

October 8, 2023Final Presentation to Client
CLNs are asked to prepare a 20-minute presentation (20 PowerPoint slide limit plus cover slide, agenda slide, reference(s) slide) Presentation on your CLN Work Integrated Learning (WIL) project focused on the managing business operations challenge presented in the client brief.
Time limit: 20 minutes plus 5 Minutes Question and Answer (Q & A)
PowerPoint limit: 20 PowerPoint slides

October 23, 2023Final Report to Client
Students will work in CLNs on an industry project with a WIL partner organization on a managing business operations challenge. The WIL partner organization will provide the brief for the project and appropriate access to relevant information. The client will define the project within the subject field of managing business operations relevant to this course.
Word limit: 4000 words (+/- 10%) plus a 250 word (max) Executive Summary plus references.
In this project students will present work in progress to the class (Assessment Task 3A), a company presentation (Assessment Task 3B) and a business report (Assessment Task 3C).
The following structure is suggested for this Assessment Task 3C, the business report:
- Cover page
- Executive summary
- Table of contents
- Introduction
- Statement of client problem
- Interpretation and analysis of the client problem
- Synthesis of the client problem and the research
- Recommendations to the client
- Reference list
In their business report CLNs will need to find an appropriate balance between managing business operations reference material, industry practice and the client problem. WIL partners will be looking for solutions to their brief that improve shareholder and stakeholder value.
CLNs are encouraged to use their research skills to find and utilise appropriate reference material to compliment the course teaching resources and client information.
A quality business report should aim to get a blend of references – text book(s), journal articles, media articles, company annual reports. It is envisaged that 12 references well chosen and well used references is a sound benchmark as a minimum.
The course facilitator and the WIL partner will provide a detailed written report as feedback.

- Apply research principles and methods to develop ethical and sustainable solutions for problems and issues in contemporary business operations practice
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization.
Final project deliverables might include:

Project Examples
Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.
Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Design of co-productive services
- Data analytics in operations management
- Managing value chains, sustainability in value chains
- Goods, services and supply chain designs
- Process selection, facility and work design
- Forecasting, demand planning and capacity management
- Process analysis, resource utilisation, scheduling, sequencing
- Blockchain
- Quality management, quality control
- Lean operating systems, project management
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.
Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.
Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.
