Details

The main goal for this project is to develop a creative robotics solution for our customers, by manufacturing two highly innovative ‘end of arm tools’ for one robot. The robot and manufactured ‘end of arm tools’ will be capable of lifting carton containers, such as flat packs, and placing them back down. In addition to this, the manufactured robot and tool will have the capability of picking up empty coffee bags, placing them in a filling machine and taking them off when they are ready to be sent out.

Deliverables

With our supervision and mentorship, students will be involved in all the tasks required to manufacture the end of arm tool, including:

  • Design;
  • Testing and iteration of prototypes, including identifying defects and constructing other iterations as necessary;
  • Manufacturing;
  • Deploying (if time remains in the project).
Mentorship

We are dedicated to supporting students during this project's completion. We provide students with access to a workshop at the Toronto Metropolitan University, any necessary materials, CAD software and access to a 3D printer, with the option for students to use their own printer if desired. We will support students' preferred work environments by offering the opportunity for a fully remote and online internship. With our already established workflow, students completing their internship remotely would send their 3D designs electronically to us, we would then print them, and send feedback to the student via video or arranged meetings. We are committed to mentoring students through all phases of the project, with special attention to the iterating phase.

Taiga is building a fleet of AI powered material handling robots called PTeR which will be provided to our customers as a service (Robot as a Service - RaaS). We are targeting applications that are underserved by conventional automation. We accomplish this by exploiting AI in a way which makes PTeR easy to use, flexible, and affordable.
