Students will work on one main project over the course of the term, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students in this program will be provided in-depth analysis in the application of CQI methodology. This course will explore the challenges of implementation and institutionalization, draw examples from a variety of health care organizations including primary care clinics, hospital laboratories, public health departments, and academic health centers. Concepts include the role of patients in CQI, assessing risk and preventing harm, strategies to promote and improve Safety and Quality, the use of social marketing in the implementation of new CQI techniques, continuous quality improvement in U.S. Public Health organizations, and future trends for continuous improvement in health care.

Students in this program will examine the dynamic nature of leadership in the healthcare and public health contexts. This course uses foundational leadership concepts to develop leadership applications and processes, such as leadership assessment (individual and team), communication improvement, strategic planning, decision making alignment, employee enhancement and knowledge management for use in creating and maintaining an organizational culture that can thrive within its external environment while improving organizational efficiency, effectiveness and efficacy.

Students will work on one main project over the course of the term, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students in this program will be introduced to the main concepts of the public health field and the critical links between global health and social and economic development. Students will get an overview of the determinants of health, and how health status is measured, the burden of disease, risk factors, and key measures to address the burden of disease in cost-effective ways. The course will be global in coverage, but with a focus on low-and middle-income countries and on the health of the poor; examining the factors that impact global health systems; analysis of health care delivery systems and influential governmental, economic, social and political forces.

They will conduct examinations of planning methods from needs assessment, through to program design. A heavy emphasis will be placed on strategic planning strategies.
